It was January 2013 and my college basketball coach, Owen Handy pulled me into his office. He told me that I was academically ineligible for the rest of the season as I had a 1.5 GPA. That was God’s way of telling me that basketball doesn’t last forever. In high school, I performed exceptionally well without having to study. I thought college was going to be that same walk in the park. I asked each of my college professors to bump my grade up just a little in order to finish playing that season. Would they had done that; I would not have learned a thing.
Hebrews 12:6 says that the Lord disciplines the one He loves. At the time I did not understand but looking back I whole heartedly believe that all things are work together for my good. The Lord will bring constructive consequences from a crisis. He’s intentional and never failing. I am glad that He loves me enough to straighten me on the right path. After sitting out that semester I never was even close to being academically ineligible. I was able to not only graduate from Anderson University in four years with a degree in athletic training. I was the first African American to graduate from the program under Dr. Jones. (Also the first African American team physician for AU).
Greater was coming. And If it had not been for the shaking,
